Giants survive Roo comeback

SOUTHERN Mallee Giants survived a late comeback by Walpeup-Underbool to hang on by eightpoints at Hopetoun on Saturday.

Giants key forwards Kain Robins and Brock Orval proveda handful early in the game and had sixof their team’s 12 goals by half-time.

Onballers Tyler Lehmann and Clint Burdett displayed their exceptional ball winning capabilities, Lehmann also making his mark on the scoreboard while resting forward.

RoosRichard Thomas and Ryan Anderson kept their side in the game.

After half-time, Roo Joshua Plozza got on top in the ruck and Ben Fisher and Kane Munro finishedoff the good work with fourand threegoals respectively.

With only 16 points separating the two teams at the final change it was anyone’s game.

The Giants extended the lead to28 points with two quick goals, but theRoos responded by kicking the next four while the Giants squandered opportunities.

However the Roos left their run too late, going down 16.13 (109) to 16.5 (101).

Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers stamped their authority on the league with a spirited come-from-behind win against second-placed Woomelang-Lascelles.

It was a game of two halves at Woomelang Recreation Reserve.

The Cats doubledtheir opposition’s score in the first half.

Jayden Lonergan dominatedup forward with all of his fivegoals coming before half-time.

He was ably supported by Devin McFarlane, who had threegoals at the same stage.

Pierce Liddle’s attack on the football and running capacity had him winning the ball in all parts of the ground.

Trent Donnan and Jake Hogan drovethe ball forward inside their attacking 50.

The game took a huge turn after half-time and the Tigers responded with a nine-goal third quarter.

Key forwards Jason Collins, Jarrod Arentz and Cliff Ryan combined to kick eightgoals between them.

Reece Luehman was pivotal in the ruckand Wes Harrison found space on his wing.

The Tigers finished with fourgoals to twoin the last quarter to win by 25 points.
