Horsham scams: Police give warning

Horsham Senior Constable Gerri O’Donnell said Horsham residents had been subject to three different scams in the past week.

She said a man came to an elderly woman’s door and said he was giving away free iPads.

SenConstO’Donnell said the man asked for a range of personal information including birth certificate and drivers licence details.

She said the phone number the man gave the woman was out of service.

SenConstO’Donnell said another Horsham resident received a phone call from someone pretending to be from the Australian Taxation Office.

She said the person was also after personal details.

Sen Const O’Donnell said a third Horsham residentreceived a false inheritance claim in the mail.

“Don’t give any details over email or over the phone unless you know who they are,” she said.

“Don’t let anyone into your house unless you know who they are.

“Get details and a contact name and call them back, or get their number from their website and call that.”
